This blog is dedicated to discussing album tracks from albums, either famous or unknown. An 'album track' is simply a song that was never released as a promotional single. Because singles are usually the tracks expected to sell well, they tend to be the 'stronger' songs and they also get more attention. A poor or mediocre album might have one or two good singles, for example, but the rest of the album will be stuffed with 'filler' - songs which are written lazily or haphazardly and thrown in just to be there.
On stronger albums, however, you'll find great tracks all the way through. In some cases, great album tracks find recognition of their own (Foo Fighters' 'Aurora' and R.E.M.'s 'Perfect Circle' are examples of this), but most often they exist in their own understated fashion. A great album track might be a song which you personally love, yet few others appreciate in the same way. It might give a band that perfect cover song, strong enough to steal the show but not well-known enough to sound cheesy when played. In any case, good album tracks often deserve more attention than they get, and I've dedicated this blog to contributing toward that attention.
You'll find many musical styles here, but as I'm the sole judge of my choices (at this point) you might find the tracks skewing toward alternative rock. This isn't because I like that genre better than anything else, but because it's the music I've been most familiar with since I was a teenager. I'll try to fight any stylistic bias as best as I can.
If you have an album track you want me to cover, from any genre, let me know and I'll consider it!
(Oh, and don't put too much stock into the blog's snappy title - some of the best album tracks could have never been singles!)
